March 2010 - British Schools National Championships &
Easter Classmaster
On Saturday 20th March, Sheffield's English Institute
of Sport hosted the 2010 British Schools Judo National Individual
Championships, a development event for secondary school
children aged 12 - 17-years-old.
The day saw James Draper, representing Imberhorne School,
become the British Schools Judo National Champion for his
age and weight. In his last opportunity, he went one better
than last year and seized the gold medal with three hard
fought contests. His sister Elizabeth repeated her performance
from last year with a bronze medal in the year 10 &
11 under 52kg group. A third Keisen Imberhorne representative,
Sophie Cummings, in her first year at the competition, gained
a creditable 5th place in the year 10 & 11 under 57kg
group.
The medalists will be invited to attend the England regional
training sessions organised by British Judo's England Performance
Team.
Not to be outdone, 12 of Keisen's junior Judo players went
to the Easter Classmaster Event in Tunbridge Wells on Sunday
21st march. With a tally of 4 golds, 2 silvers and 6 third
place bronze medals, they demonstrated the depth of talent
the club is now developing.
Jules Dieleman got a golds in his first ever competition
as did Ryan Campbell. Jules' sister, Isabelle, made it a
golden double for the family whilst Yun Shin won his second
consecutive gold medal. Louie Slocombe and Myles Coomber
gained silver medals, with Myles giving an outstanding performance
in his first competition, winning 3 out of 4 of his contests.
Overall, the Keisen players won over 75% of their contests.
