Keisen Judo Players end 2008 on a high note
December has seen Keisen Judo club players involved in
2 competitions from which they came back with 18 medals
and a cup!
The month started well with a group of junior players attending
the Classmaster Christmas Friendly Tournament in Tunbridge
Wells on Sunday the 1st of December. This competition is
designed to enable all competitors to compete against opponents
with very similar age, weight and skill levels, which makes
it an ideal competition for complete beginners. With the
more experienced players, this ensures there are always
keenly fought bouts for them as well. The judges also award
Spirit of Judo medals to the player who exemplifies
the sportsmanship, respect and resilience that typifies
what Judo is all about.
The team came back with 15 medals in all: 4 Gold, 6 Silver
and 5 Bronze. This collection gave them the second highest
team score in the Tournament, for which they were awarded
the Silver Cup.
On Sunday the 13th of December, 3 experienced players attended
the Northern Home Counties Championship in High Wycombe.
Shrugging off a viral infection, James Draper managed to
fight his way into the Bronze medal slot and score 10 points
towards his promotion to Black Belt. Jessica Plumtree fought
well against very strong opposition winning a creditable
Bronze medal. Elizabeth Draper turned in another accomplished
performance winning Gold in her weight group. This reinforces
Elizabeth's position as one of the best girls at her age
in the country.
See the results section for details
of the medallists.
