Keisen returned to Southend again this year with a strong competive squad. The team comprising of seven junior and three senior players secured two medals and a total of five top five places in a very successful days competition.

The senior team players, Sophie Cummings and Hyun-ho Shin were first on and had mixed fortunes. Talented under 73kg player Hyun-ho Shin made a very impressive debut at full senior level, narrowly missing out on the bronze and finishing with a very impressive 5th place. Sophie Cummings unfortunately succumbed to an injury in her second contest and had to withdraw.

The junior team capitalised on their thorough preparation for this event and returned a great set of results. Under 38kg player, Liam Rieley continued to show good form with a credible 7th place and sibling Matthew blitzed the over 73kg category with an outstanding gold medal performance.

Lyle Slocombe, fighting at under 46kg progressed to the semi-finals before eventually having to settle for 5th place. Team mate Leon Verrells also fighting in the same group finished in 7th place.

Under 50kg fighter, Peter Lawson continued to improve with another dogged performance, losing his first round contest, but then fighting back through to the bronze medal contest. Brother, Alex Lawson fighting at under 66kg, unfortunately was not placed.

Up and coming under 60kg star, Louie Slocombe rounded the days results off with a second medal for Keisen, picking up bronze in the under 55/60kg group. Slocombe is fast getting a reputation for great foot-sweep techniques and did not disappoint, despatching his first opponent for ippon in just 15 seconds with a great technique.

Coach Toine Hodgkiss commented afterwards; "The team were outstanding on the day, two medals and a host of 5th places is a great result."
