Great Britain Under 20 Trials
Keisen senior fighter, James Draper showed good form in
the first major event of 2009. James returned from the Great
Britain Under 20 Trials with a reserve place in the GB squad
after securing a 5th place at the event in Sheffield on
the 10th January. The trials took place at the English Institute
of Sport and are the identification event for the 2009 GB
squad.
James fought in the highly competitive under 55kg category,
securing a semi-final spot after an outstanding ippon victory
over former National Champion Danny Myers. James eventually
exited the competition after an unfortunate defeat in the
Bronze Medal contest. Coach Tim Draper praised his performance,
commenting that James has now fully broken into the elite
level of competitive judo in the UK and has all the attributes
to continue to progress and challenge at this level.
