Last weekend saw the golden end of a glittering junior
judo era for Keisen Judo Club.
James Draper, the longest serving junior member is
moving up to senior competitions after 10 years.
The six times Sussex Champion went to his last junior
competition at the Hampshire Open Judo Championship
in Portsmouth on Sunday July 6th and came back with
gold in the under 55kg group.
James came through the Championships with a 100%
record, winning all four of his contests. After a
rapid and uneventful journey through the pool stages,
James ended the day with a tight but ultimately gold
medal winning victory over a very good fighter from
Exeter Judokwai.
Toine Hodgekiss competed in the under 73kg Senior
group and managed 5th place. This was a good result
for Toine as he was fighting at the bottom end of
his weight category and was competing against black
belts.
