Keisen junior players continue to shine by returning from the Sussex Trials with an impressive tally of three gold and three bronze medals.

Jenny Braim appearing for the first time in the ultra light under 25kg group had to fight an opponent in the next weight group up to win her gold medal, Jenny’s sister, Jo Braim, continuing this success with a good result winning bronze at under 44kg.

In the girls middle weight groups, Elizabeth Draper and Sophie Cummings both competed in the under 52kg group winning gold and bronze respectively. Elizabeth, a veteran of previous Trials events impressed with a dazzling 100 percent record, deservedly winning gold and becoming Sussex Champion for the first time.

Sophie also fought well showing some new techniques, and after a tense but unsuccessful showdown with her team mate won an excellent bronze.

The event was rounded off with a clinical display from James Draper who won Gold and became Sussex Champion for the sixth time in his career. Other notable performances were made by Keisen players. Max Oulton narrowly missed out in the under 30kg group but still took a fifth place and will be remembered for an exceptional ogoshi in his opening fight. Lyle Slocombe also fought in the under 30kg group proving to the coaching team that he is now ready to move up to a new level of competition. Toine Hodgkiss, appearing at the Trials as a senior for the first time demonstrated that he is finding his feet at this level and promises to deliver in future events.
